Spiros Pengas, born and raised in Thessaloniki, is the incumbent Deputy Mayor for Tourism Development and International Relations of the City of Thessaloniki since 2014.
He commenced his political career as a Member of the Local Council after the municipal elections of 2010. In 2011 he was appointed as a Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education & Tourism. In 2013 he appointed Counselor for Tourism and International Relations and President and CEO of the Metropolitan Development Agency of Thessaloniki, while in 2014 he was promoted to the Deputy Mayor for Tourism and International Relations.
He is a graduate of the German School of Thessaloniki and a holder of degrees in Political Science and International Relations from the Universities of Freiburg and Munich. The acquired experience during his term in the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Brussels, along with his experience as the owner and General Director of his family business “Galerie Dora Penga” (transforming it from a local business to a nationally recognized enterprise), constituted the basis and the pillar of his aforementioned political career.
